CLOTHING

Carib Cultura Clothing

I am fascinated with Caribbean clothing and accessories.  From our traditional, folkloric fashion to the vibrant colors and sparkling costumes used in our cultural festivities, each time I view cultural attire I'm instantly overcome with joy.

Caribbean fashion has both influences from our African ancestors coupled with years of European colonization, however one of my favorite Caribbean fabrics is madras, which is said to have originated in India.  Since the 1800's our ancestors have been adorning themselves with beautiful madras fabric!  As fabrics were restricted by enslaved Africans and free people of color, Madras was adapted as an affordable and expressive use for both clothing and to adorn the head.  Even back then, fashion was used as a form of expression.

In this collection, I share some of my favorite forms of self-expression through fashion.
